Local youth theater workshop performances
August 10, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
One event on August 11, 2021 at 7:00 pm
Local theater organization Dare 2 Defy and recent Dayton transplant/longtime filmmaker & author Mathew Klickstein present a new experiment in youth theater the likes of which you’ve never experienced before!
Expertly guiding a diverse group of area children (ages 11-15), Klickstein has helped the budding young writers “crowdsource” an original hour-long play based both on the lives and personalities of said children, as well as George Orwell’s prescient and timely masterpiece ANIMAL FARM.
The play — cleverly titled by the child collaborators PLAGIARISM IS FUN!: A MUSICAL (which is NOT a musical!), directed by D2D’s Philip Drennen — will be performed by said group of kids and their friends at the Brightside: August 10th & 11th, at 7pm both nights.
Due to the unique nature of the process of scriptwriting, the children will also take part in a thoughtful Q&A after the performances both nights so that audience members can ask about how they put together such a special production almost entirely on their own.
Local theater is BACK, Dayton! And what better way to celebrate than to see what the next generation of creative innovators have in store for the future with an insightful, funny, strange, provocative, and surprisingly pertinent new play by a group of our very own kids who are about to prove they have been paying a LOT more attention and have a LOT more to say about our current cultural climate than you could ever imagine!!
Come support these kids, Dare 2 Defy, the Brightside and local Dayton theater on August 10th or 11th, and get ready for some FUN!
