Oktoberfest will return for its 50th anniversary in 2021, taking place September 24-26 on the museum grounds!
A Dayton tradition established in 1971, Oktoberfest is the museum’s largest annual fundraiser and vital to everything we do at the Dayton Art Institute. The annual three-day fall festival takes place the fourth full weekend of September.
Plans for Oktoberfest 2021 include the return of the Lederhosen Lunch and Preview Party on Friday, September 24, followed by our Oktoberfest celebration on Saturday, September 25 and Sunday, September 26.

We’ve just announced some updates and changes for this year’s Oktoberfest: Saturday hours will be changed to run from noon to 8 p.m. In addition, the museum building and collection galleries will be closed to the public from Thursday, September 23 through Sunday, September 26. On the festival grounds, changes include eliminating the two enclosed artisan tents and relocating other vendor booths to open up more space on the grounds.
Oktoberfest Needs Volunteers
Oktoberfest wouldn’t be possible without the support of more than 2,000 volunteers each year. Many different volunteer opportunities will be available at Oktoberfest 2021, including selling Oktoberfest mugs and t-shirts, selling soft drinks and water, staffing admission gates, serving as greeters in the museum, and assisting with family activities at the FamilyFest. Follow the link below to register at the DAI’s Oktoberfest Volunteer Hub.
