Mr Mean is inspired by 13th album recorded by The Ohio Players. The Ohio Players were an American funk and R&B band, most popular in the 70’s. The band formed in Dayton, O in 1959 as the Ohio Untouchables. In 1977 the band was at the height of its popularity when actor Fred Williamson asked them to create music for Mr Mean, a movie he was writing and directing. Mr Mean was also the first time the entire band was featured on the cover posing with their model.
This Mean ass IPA is pale orange with copper highlights and has a funk load of Amarillo and Centennial hops providing citrus and fruity aromas and a very bitter finish. The malt character is slightly bready/nutty with a dry finish. At 9% ABV and 96 IBU’s this beer will keep your inner soul groovin’ with every sip!
As an added treat they will have Colemine Records in the house dropping some funky 45’s for your listening pleasure. Tapping Party kicks off at 5:00….see you then!
Warped Wing Brewery releases their newest limited release beer, Gypsy Queen on Thurs, May 2nd at 5pm. . This unique ale is reddish-brown in color and has a mildly smoky finish with medium body and caramel malt highlights. The hop character is very mild with just enough bitterness to balance the beer. Made with Ancho and Serrano chiles which provide an aroma of peppers and a mild heat index which builds as you drink the beer.
This beer was inspired by Dayton’s early history of Gypsy culture that originated with King Levi Mosley and his wife Queen Matilda Joles Stanley. Queen Matilda was well known for telling fortunes and had remarkable powers as a mesmerist. Once again Warped Wing has tapped local artist Amy Kollar Anderson to create the art and many of you may recognize Clash Consignment ownerMary Kathryn Burnside as the model.. This beer will keep your taste buds wandering with it’s unique combination of flavors but in the end you’ll keep coming back home for that mild heat that builds throughout! A truly perfect beer to kickoff the grilling season!!
Thanks to Amy Kollar Anderson for another awesome label design!!
Warped Wing Brewing Company and Wood Burl, a newly launched specialty coffee roaster started by the owners of Press Coffee Bar have joined forces to create a new collaboration beer. The brew combines cold brew coffee derived from a proprietary brewing process developed by Brett Barker of Press Coffee Bar & Wood Burl Coffee Roasters with an innovative twist on a Belgian style Tripel that Brewmaster, John Haggerty, decided to turn BLACK! When asked why he engaged in this project, Haggerty said, “I have a lot of respect for what Brett is doing at Press and Wood Burl and he and I really wanted to get together to do something that was unique in terms of flavor profile.” Barker goes on to add “It was exciting to roast and blend coffees that I thought would be complimentary to the yeast flavor profile of the Black Tripel.”
The beer name is also unique as it has a direct tie to Dayton history. The beer, called Pirogue, is named after the type of vessel that carried the first settlers from Cincy up the Great Miami River to Dayton. “We liked the symbolism of the name “Pirogue” because it was instrumental in the first settlement of Dayton back in 1796. Fast forward to modern day with two young companies like WWBC and Wood Burl both committed to the resettlement of downtown Dayton through manufacturing unique products like coffee and beer and now doing it together. It just made sense,” says Nick Bowman, head of Sales & Marketing at WWBC.
The brewery will host a release party on March 20th at 5:00pm and will feature an opportunity to meet both brewers and discuss their collaborative creation. The beer will be available for sale in draught only to bars, restaurants and retail the following week.
